1. Independence and funding
Emberfall Editorial is funded by its founders and does not accept payment from game publishers, developers, or platform holders for coverage placement, review scores, or ranking positions. We do not participate in affiliate programs that incentivise positive coverage.
If we accept review codes, preview access, or travel accommodations, we disclose this relationship prominently on the relevant page. The absence of a disclosure should not be interpreted as proof of independence; we simply may not have received material support.
2. Review methodology
Every review follows a documented six-point rubric: Gameplay, World & Lore, Progression Design, Accessibility, Monetisation, and Technical Polish. Each category is scored on a ten-point editorial scale. The final score is a weighted editorial judgment, not a mathematical average.
We distinguish between desk research (published materials, patch notes, developer interviews, and community documentation) and hands-on testing (direct play on hardware we own or borrow). Reviews based primarily on desk research are labelled as such.
3. Corrections and updates
Factual errors are corrected when identified. Corrections are noted at the bottom of the affected article with the date of change and a brief explanation. We do not silently alter scores or conclusions after publication; significant updates are announced in our dispatch newsletter.
4. Scoring philosophy
A score is a concise editorial summary, not a scientific measurement. Two reviewers may reasonably disagree on the same game. Our scores reflect how well a game achieves its stated goals within its genre, budget, and platform constraints. A 7.0 from Emberfall means "worth considering with caveats," not "failure."
5. Conflict of interest
Contributors must disclose personal relationships with subjects they cover, including friendships, prior employment, or financial investments. Editors reserve the right to reassign coverage when a conflict exists. We do not review games developed by immediate family members.
6. Scope and genre focus
We cover fantasy RPGs and adjacent genres. We do not cover casino games, real-money wagering, or gambling-adjacent products. References to loot, multipliers, power curves, and progression are strictly explanatory and never constitute financial advice or reward promises.
